Bend-Sunriver RV Campground

Bend Sunriver Pickleball 22 735    This is our sixth visit to the park.  There are some improvements like newly surfaced pickleball courts complete with new nets and fencing.  The store has been updated along with most of the "town square".  The check-in location has been moved from the welcome center to the enterence gate and the gates have been replaced and a second keypad has been added.  However, there is no rec department to speak of.  The lodge is there, but no weekend breakfasts.  Both pools have been empty for three summers so now they pretty much need to be replaced, along with the hot tub.  There are no more kayak rentals and the van that picked up members who rafted downstream on the Little Deschutes is a thing of the past.  The electricity in part of the park is so bad that they have to close sites to keep multiple sites from tripping out whole rows of sites.  Since sites have no septics, we used a restroom that was populated with little frogs and a couple of big cockroaches.  In the restroom that I used two of the three urinals were out of order and one of two toilets was constantly backed up.  There was one soap dispenser for three sinks and in the thirteen days that we were there, it was never refilled.  It was obvious that the park was very understaffed.  Rules that I enforced while working as a ranger there for two summers are thrown out the window.  I guess it's no big deal to literally close-line deer as they run through the park.  They are working toward cleaning up the years and years of junk and garbage located behind the maintenance shop and in the process, they eliminated RV storage for members.  All that being said, it is a campground rather than an RV park, most sites are large with plenty of space between sites.  It gives you that camping feeling while you're there and I guess that's what most people are concerned with, including me.  Hopefully, with the new manager, things will improve.

Bend Sunriver bucks 735

The best part of my visit was my morning walks.  Each day I would drive up the road to Caldera Springs and do my five-mile walk.  Several mornings I ran into these three bucks and one morning they showed up with a fourth buck and two does.  This makes all the issues with the campground worth it.  Plus it was nice to visit family and have our friend Andrew camp next door for a few days.
