Bend-Sunriver RV Campground

Bend Sunriver 2024 Augie coach     This is our seventh visit to the park.  There are a few changes since our last visit a couple of years ago.  First, the positive, there used to be 50 amps available in just two loops, now it's available at all sites.  Both of the pools have been rebuilt and look to be in good shape.  They built a fenced-in dog area, however, they put it way out in a field where their disc golf course is.  The only thing is, everyone lets their dogs run free in the field so the fenced area is not used at all.  Also, there is a plethora of friendly bunnies that visit the sites.

The not-so-good changes are things like a noticeable lack of staff.  The welcome center is not used, everything is moved out to the gate leaving the rangers to deal with everything.  With the lack of staff, the camp store is closed, there is no longer a rec department, and the park rangers only work the gate until 6 PM and they never leave the gate to check on the park, so no rules are enforced.  As a former ranger at the park, I see many issues that go ignored.  Without a rec department, there are no longer kid's activities, no boat rentals or raft trips, gone are the weekend movie nights on the park's 40' inflatable movie screen, and the Sunday morning breakfast that the staff served up for a reasonable price is gone.  Finally, on the grounds, there is a garbage dump filled with everything from old trailers, propane tanks, camping furniture, rotted picnic tables, and old cars, trucks, and tractors.

Bend 2024 the Clarks

The best part of my visit was my morning walks with Augie-bogs and camping next to Jim, Joy, & Jessica, friends that we met several years ago.
