South Jetty RV Campground

South Jetty 2024 Augie in a hoodie      This is our second visit to South Jetty.  On this visit, our friends Shane, Betty, and their boys, Duane and Robert joined us for a couple of days.  Having two eight-year-old boys running around the campsite sure changes how we normally camp in a good way.  Typically, we don't bother building a wood fire and roasting marshmallows to make smores.  We don't normally set up a tent and we certainly don't dress Augie up, but Augie was happy to oblige and they put one of their hoodies on him.  Shane a Betty are great company and it has been a few years since they joined us camping.

When we arrived at the park, we had a hard time finding a site large enough for us to park the coach and set up a good-sized tent.  We tried several spots that just didn't work.  Finally, we found a site up the road to what used to be called the adult lodge.  We had lost a spring to one of the rear jacks and our rear airbags were leaking.  When we attempted leveling, the ground was so soft that one 50k lbs rated jack pad bent and broke. The other rear jack drove our low clearance jack into the ground so far that we had to buy a shovel to dig deep enough to get a new bottle jack under the motorhome's jack to get it back up without the aid of springs.  We were afraid we'd have to call for help but we managed to get out without that expense.  After two days of camping on a slope so severe that our refrigerator would not work, we pulled forward and placed boards under the rear tires so that at least the refrigerator would work again.  Even with the issues we had a great time camping with Shane, Betty, and the boys.

The park itself is nice enough.  The roads could use some repair and the sites could be deeper and more level, but other than that, it's a nice park.  The staff was as helpful as they could be and made our guests feel welcome even though they weren't members.  The pool and the adult lodge were a big hit with the boys.  We will keep it on our list of campgrounds to visit in the future again.
