Whalers Rest RV and Camping Resort
This is our third visit to Whaler's Rest, (actually, my third visit), Jackie didn't join me on our second visit and met me at Beverly Beach State Park a couple of days later. On this visit, we decided to camp at the south end of the park so that we would be close to the beach access trail. Unfortunately, on this visit, the dogs I refer to in the following paragraphs (comments from a previous visit) weren't able to join me on the beach. We lost Lucy, she passed at 14 and lived most of her life with a heart murmur. We feel fortunate that she lived as long as she did. She is very missed. Bob who is now 14 himself did make it out on the beach but had to be carried most of the way. However, now I have Augie, who just turned one. We were able to run several miles north every morning before breakfast. It was a perfect location for him.
I agree; Whaler’s Rest is a nice campground with lots of things to see and do nearby. The campground is very well kept and the staff is great. Although there is access to the beach, you must cross US 101 to get there. The beach is beautiful and Lost Creek Wayside was the only way I saw down onto that section, so there were few people. That worked great for dogs who love nothing better than chasing each other around the beach.
The campground has an adult lodge, a family lodge with an indoor pool and hot tub, a miniature golf course, a small disc golf course, a shuffleboard, a laundromat, and tennis courts. There is also a fenced dog walk area and a playground. Our campsite was secluded, but not all were. Whaler’s Rest felt more like a campground than just an RV park. Overall, we liked the park and will return in the future. I recommend finding a tourist info center and find out what’s nearby. We did, but on our last day there, so we need to return someday.
Whaler’s Rest is located just south of Newport, Oregon, just about the middle of the Oregon Coast. It too is a Thousand Trails Campground, so here is their description:
